The Unsinkables WIP #28 : Presentation tray underway!

I've been working pretty much non stop since my army was completed on my presentation tray. I've been learning alot doing it (mainly that the skin on my fingers grow back pretty fast), and it been a really fun adventure. I'm close to finish and i think its time to show it.

Dark Elves ; Presentation Tray Part 1

Lately i got a bit burnt out from painting (after less than 10 witches, its a bit frightening), so i did other things, like playing XCom and Dota 2. That get old fast so i started another part of the project to ignite a new spark ; my presentation tray.

My goal is pretty simple ; either the Dark elves are about to invade a very quiet little city in the middle of nowhere, or they just left it ablaze, not sure yet.

First thing first, placing the different building ;

I wanted some kind of city on a cliff, so went for a 3 level city, containing 4 building ;
a windmill
2 hourse
a forge

I never really managed to get much done with styrofoam, so i did some quick test on how i wanted to do the cliff

Basically big rocks. I'll add small one to fill in the hole, but that's about it. doesnt look like much, but once a bit more is done, it's starting to take shape!

I'm still undecided if i want to keep the tray ,as its very big, so it's stalling for now, but i'm hoping to finish at least building it in the next 2 weeks.

Presentation Tray WIP #2

Last night i decided to start my Presentation Tray, since i have very little left to paint this week, and i doubt i'll have any time to do anything next week (with the drone release and all). So i started to do the basic, without any clue on how i'll finish it.

First, what i was aiming for ;

Presentation Tray WIP #1, the idea

This weekend, i'm starting the work on my Presentation Tray.

I had many ideas, that changed through the process of painting my idea ;

a Circus camp at the bottom of an hill with a few house at the top as if there was a city nearby.
a big circle (or three), with circus tent covering part of it.

I finally settled for something less complicated ; a swamp, plain and simple.

But since it would be just too easy to throw some water effect on a green painted sheet of styrofoam, i decided to go a little more complicated.

The idea is to have something "engraved" on the terrain. The phrase "Why so serious?" was planned from the start, to show somewhere on the presentation tray. After all, this army is not aimed at being competitive, it's aimed as a heavily themed army (Nurgle Only + Nurgle Carnival), so, whenever my opponent feels like being a dick competitive opponent to me, i could just look at him with a smile and ask him "Why so serious?"

But just a phrase is too easy still. Someone gave me the idea of using a nurgle symbol on the tray, specifically, the fly. Since i'm already planning on using 3 fly banner as objective, why not also use it on my presentation tray?

Ogre's Presentation Tray #2

So i did a bit of work on the presentation tray. I tried my friend's foam cutter, and was pretty pleased with the result. So after about 2 hours of work, i managed to do something like this  ;

I'm hoping to start this week filling up the gaps with plaster, and building some height on the base so my tray "dissapear" when placed on the board. I might end up with something half finished, but i at least gotta try.

Eventful post, but no pictures

Yesterday been a pretty eventful night. First, i received what i ordered in january (finally) from GC-minis. With their free shipping gone, and their very long wait time (and lack of communication), its definately the last time i order from them. So i received ;
3xDark Eldar Venom
2x Hellion box
1x Talos

With this order, i think its safe to say i can play 1500 pts games with a relatively competitive list (for the current Edition, at least). I'll work on some list, and post what i'm planning to play later today.

Ogre's Presentation Tray

With roughly a month to go before ND IV, i have to get going with my army, and get ready to present something decent. So today i started working on my presentation tray that i'll be using to showcase my army. It's basically an ice cave, like in Ogre Kingdom's fluff, that my army is using as shelter. It will be (hopefully) very dirty and very bloody.

To break from what everyone else do around here, they're gonna be presented at an angle, so it is a corner of the tray that will be the cavern's end. In front, all my monsters (because it doesnt really make much sense to put the monster in the back of the cave if you want to sleep/eat/brawl now, does it?), in the middle, my Ironguts deathstar, behind them a unit of 5 (or 6) Maneaters (Proxied as bulls for now). BSB and Firebelly will have their spot on each side, and my General/Slaughtermaster will be standing on top of a little bit of ice (presented here as a red can), looking over his tribe.

the can in the back will be a circus tent, stripe painted red and white. What is currently towel rolls will be ice walls, hopefully doing something that looks real enough. There will also be a giant icycle in the middle of the board, to break a bit from the "wall in the back, army in the front" look.

For now i'm considering a 24"x24" tray, which should be big enough to carry just about any Ogre's 2500 points list.
