Today i completed the cart for my Soulgrinder/Hall of illusion experience. I tried to stay as close to possible to the video, while making it as much Nurgle as possible (so alot more "alive" i hope).
The big red "M", with something that oddly look like a penis. Not sure if it was intentional, but i did notice it on the video. No matter what, i stuck with it. After seeing that picture, i think i might have to go over it again and shade it some more. I wanted it really bright green, and that's exactly what i got, but its a pretty bland bright green.
On the wheel and skull, i tried something new ; i roughly used the same recipe for my dark NMM that i used with my Grey Knight, but i skipped a few mid/light green and went straight for a much lighter color. Add alot of "BOOM" to the highlights. I like it.
The Poor Bastard running the cart. He's probably what i like the most about this ; model fits right in, and i like how i painted him.
All of a sudden, that Soulgrinder is getting closer to completition!
I've been painting and playing Fantasy for the past 3 years, spending much time and money into a hobby that very few people really understand. This blog is following my steps into the world of Game Workshop's Fantasy and 40k.

Carnival of Carnage : Violent J, prince of Nurgle
Hey! I'm Violent J. And I'm here... Well, I'm here to kick your ass!
Riddle Box
My big Daemon Prince is advancing near completition. I'm not 100% happy about him, and hearing someone this weekend call him hippo didn't help. The more i paint him, the more i realize that a green stuff job has to be more than just "adequate", otherwise once painted, you see all the faulty details.

Carnival of Carnage : Oh the horror! a pink horrors story
What is better to give you a boost of motivation to paint? Win games. I was slowly loosing motivation, especially since i couldnt manage a win to save my life, so the painting was slowly stopping. Then i tried a new list (not involving Kairos), and i started winning. And all of a sudden, i want to finish this army and add even more to it.
So my Pink horrors got some love, and i started my first test model.

Carnival of Carnage main attraction : Daemon Prince, Soul Grinder, steeds and horrors
oh how i love vacation ; the perfect time for doing stuff you usually don't have time for, like cleaning up your working space. This is exactly what i did for two straight days ; cleaning up my paint spot, storing correctly my armies and terrains, and basically, cleaning up all the crap that was laying everywhere.
But, this post isnt about how i cleaned my workspace, its instead about my new additions to my army being worked on ; the Daemon Prince of Nurgle, the Soul Grinder of Nurgle, the Steeds of Slaanesh, and the Pink Horrors.

Carnival of Carnage ; Soul Grinder's Hall of Illusions, or the ride of your life...
My creative juice is flowing again... i love it.
Almost done with a whole 100g of green stuff, and my daemon prince is still far from finished. but my Soul Grinder is almost done.
I had tons of idea today while listening to old recording of ICP on Howard Stern (i really recommend the one against Sharon Osbourne, funniest shit ever...).
First, i had an idea the whole time about making a rollercoaster out of him, and i think i finally decided on how to make it look like one, while avoiding making something stupidly complicated out of it. At first i though about rollercoaster rails around the models, but it was such a complicated thing to do, i just couldnt.
So instead, he's gonna swing at it ; I'll make him a bat, and he literally swing at the cart for the ride of your life.

You notice the plasticard, i decided to make him like the cart on "Halls of illusions"... the the giant guy running and screaming inside.
The second part was the underbelly of the beast. I didnt quite know what to do with it ; it had a correct shape, but was too rough to be kept as is, and i knew i couldnt sculpt something great under there, so i went with plan B ;
once i was done, i looked at it, then i looked at a soon-to-be-painted model i owned from mad clown miniatures (https://www.facebook.com/MadClownMiniatures), the creepy mouth monster, and damn... didnt mean to copy it, but i guess subconsciously, i did.
For the record, the little thing coming out of his front isnt his... yeah, i figured if i made something where his 4th leg should be, it'd be better... might add some small toes...

Nurgle Carnival now the Carnival of Carnage
Yes, i have to admit, i finally am forced to start adding more than nurgle to my army. Not that i am forced, but some variety is good, right?
For that reason, my nurgle carnival is now my carnival of carnage (and you can bet my Daemon Prince will look like Violent J).

2013 Recap
last year, i set myself 24 goals, aiming for a 60% success.
http://enkiel.blogspot.ca/2012/12/goal-for-2013.html
Lets see how i fared first
Warmachine 1/1
1 goal which was not to buy new model until everything is painted. I resisted, and despite not painting anything, at least i didn't buy anything. Success
40k 0/3
Paint a few model from my Dark Eldar. In the end, i didn't paint dark eldar, i instead started a new Grey Knights army. Fail X3
Fantasy 4/13
Nurgle 3/3
Finishing my army + presentation tray for ND Open. Success
Play at least 10 games. Success. I didnt play them before the tournament, which bite me in the ass, but at least i played with the army.
Ogre 1/4
Well, this gonna be painfull, as i didn't really touch them, except to play with them once in awhile....
Finish Stonehorn. Failed. Didn't touch him at all.
new BSB. Failed. Didn't even start thinking about it
Tattooes. Failed. No real reason.
10 Games. Success!
O&G 0/6
Even worst than my Ogres, those werent touched, not even for playing....
Terrain 2/7
adding terrain to 40k Failed x2
Basecoat or paint 40k building Failed x2
Build and Paint 2 Tabletop Failed
Build and Paint 2 tabletop forest + add another terrain to my fantasy table. Success. I call it success because i fixed my forest problem by purchasing 4 already painted GW Forest, and also added a used skullmantle big ass terrain to my roster.
Total is 7/24 for a very bad 29%... Lets sets some goal that are actually possible, even with a "i dont wanna see anything warhammer related for the next 6 months" phase...

Nurgle Daemon Prince WIP #1
So after a pretty long Daemon hiatus, i decided to start again on my Daemon Prince for the next tournament in august. I have plans for 3 project until then + moving to a new house. Will i be able to complete it all? probably not, but at least, it's keeping me motivated for now...
My Daemon Prince will replace my GUO for most of my Fantasy game, since i think the GUO is way too easy of a target for opponent cannon.
Obviously, he'll be carnival-ized too, but for now, i'm just bulking him up a bit.
I could probably talk about my inspiration for him. When i re-watched Lord of the rings a few months ago, i found that General which i though would be a great Nurgle model, so i started thinking about a DP looking like him a bit... Obviously, that General was Gothmog.

Daemon Prince ; Bite off more than i can chew?
Sometimes, i have ideas.
Sometimes, they are even good ideas.
Sometimes, i also try to make them a reality.
Sometimes, it works.
Sometimes, it doesn't.
Right
now, i'm not 100% sure where my Daemon Prince stand in the "works" or
the "doesn't works" column. I had great plan ; From a terrorgheist,
building a unique Daemon Prince out of bits and green stuff.
Right now, i'm about 10% into the project, and i'm just not sure if i'll be able to finish it.

ND Open V - Battle Report
ND Open is finished, and i’m very happy to say that i got what i wanted ; a load of fun, and a load of good comments on my army. The only bad comment came from the judge, who pointed out that my toad didn’t have a base done like the others.
Not my picture, but my army
I finished 22nd (out of 50 players) in Best General. It’s roughly what I was aiming for. I hadn’t tried my list nor even the new book prior to the tournament, so I wasn’t really expecting to do too well. I think with a few more game under my belt, I could have done a lot better. (my score : 100.5, best score : 143)
I also finished 12th overall in best Sportmanship. This isn’t really representative on how well you behave or how well your list is played, since, well, it’s so subjective. So I’ll just be happy that I wasn’t too far down there. (my score : 117.5, best score : 128)
I finished tied 2nd in Best Presentation, which is pretty much where I was hoping to get (I really wanted the 1st place, but I knew there would be 2-3 army better painted than mine up there). I quite frankly don’t mind all that much that I didn’t bring back the price, because frankly I was just very happy to be considered one of the top painted army. Definitely feels like it paid off to spend so much time painting a whole 2500 pts army in roughly 6 months. It was fun, and I’m happy about what came out. I’m definitely looking forward to next year, with either more added to the carnival, or a completely new army (most definitely another Chaos God). (my score 110, best score : 120)
And I finished….. 3rd (!!!!!) Overall. That’s quite a surprise. It’s not something I was expecting at all (was aiming at a top 15), and that alone put a big smile on my face. I did face some pretty strong list (especially on my first game, where I faced a Ld bomb army from old Daemon book). (my score 338, best score : 389)
After the cut, my list, and battle report.

Plague Drone of Nurgle completed
Well, first i must say i'm sorry i didn't post much WIP of these, as i was in a pretty big rush to get everything completed in time. Good news is ; i'm done! And i still have 48 hours left to read my book and learn about Daemons, yay!
So when the book was released, i purchased the book, the magic card (obviously) and 2 Plague Drone of Nurgle, without really knowing if they are good or not. I just figured i'd field them anyway, so why not buy enough to do whatever i want? In the end, my list this weekend will include 6 of them.
So lets see some pictures
As you can see, they are using the yellow from my Nurgling. A pretty weird choice, but i figured if i painted them with a green tint, it would end up a green plaguebearer on a green fly on a green base... too green for me. So i went with Yellow.
The armor is black, as i figured there was enough color in there already, and it was a good color for the small bits like the tips of their many legs.

Presentation Tray WIP #2
Last night i
decided to start my Presentation Tray, since i have very little left to paint this week,
and i doubt i'll
have any time to do anything next week (with the drone release and all). So i started to
do the basic, without any clue on how i'll finish it.
First, what i
was aiming for ;

Daemon of Chaos 8th ed book ; idea on lists
With the new book less than a week away, i
have to reconsider my list for the upcoming ND Open (50+ players).
Nurgle Carnival - Herald BSB Finished
Last night i
pretty much finished my Herald of Nurgle BSB, finishing the banner, and fixing up some
small details. He's not perfect (i couldnt
say i consider any of my work to be perfect), but he's very well presentable, and actually
does stand head and shoulders above the rest of the Plague bearers.
I'm saying this because in the WD, there was something funny about the new herald, sayign
it stands head and shoulder above the rest, when he's EXACTLY the same size as a standard PB.
Anyway, here's
some pictures

Presentation Tray WIP #1, the idea
This weekend, i'm starting the work on my Presentation Tray.
I had many ideas, that changed through the process of painting my idea ;
a Circus camp at the bottom of an hill with a few house at the top as if there was a city nearby.
a big circle (or three), with circus tent covering part of it.
I finally settled for something less complicated ; a swamp, plain and simple.
But since it would be just too easy to throw some water effect on a green painted sheet of styrofoam, i decided to go a little more complicated.
The idea is to have something "engraved" on the terrain. The phrase "Why so serious?" was planned from the start, to show somewhere on the presentation tray. After all, this army is not aimed at being competitive, it's aimed as a heavily themed army (Nurgle Only + Nurgle Carnival), so, whenever my opponent feels like being a dick competitive opponent to me, i could just look at him with a smile and ask him "Why so serious?"
But just a phrase is too easy still. Someone gave me the idea of using a nurgle symbol on the tray, specifically, the fly. Since i'm already planning on using 3 fly banner as objective, why not also use it on my presentation tray?

Nurgle Carnival - Great Unclean One Based and Finished!
After my test base and my nurgling, i decided to try my method on my Great Unclean One (especially the bloody part of the base). The final result, just like my Plague bearer, is disgusting (imho), in a nurgle kind of way.

Nurgle Carnival - Herald BSB
Despite the rumors of a new Nurgle Herald due early in march, i decided to make my own for the time being (and just in case the rumor are actually false).
My goal was to use the "cheap" Nurgle Chaos Lord for Warrior of Chaos, and turn him into a relatively fat Plaguebearers.
So here is what i started up with
Obviously, he's not really Daemon material with his big axe, his helm, his armor and his chainmail. So i decided to try and make him look more daemonic.

Nurgle Carnival - Plague Bearers WIP #11
Getting closer and closer to a finished army!
I put the "final" touch on my last bunch of Plaguebearers (all 12 of thems!), bringing the total to 70 fully painted Plague bearers.
Let's have a look at the new addition ;

Rottus (Festus) Finished!
Late last night i completed my first herald, based on Festus model. Very nice model, full of details and plenty of different texture, bump and crevice for many different technics.
Took me awhile to decide if i wanted to do OSL on his bottles or not. I decided to go for the glow effect, and i have to say i'm very happy with the result.
It was also my first true nurgling to paint. I finally decided to go for a yellow color, with shading based on purple color. I really like the end result. It's a bit candy looking, but i think it mixt well with the greenish skintone of my plaguebearers...
Who's next?

Was so tempted to put some kind of keg's tap at the bottom of his backpack...
Funny enough, i painted LOTS over the years, but it was the first time i had true fleshtone to paint...
I went very dark with the staff details, but i didnt want to load up the model with even more colors...
