Hordes : Trollbloods

What just happened? Did i just cheated on my beloved Games Workshop? Yes, yes I did. I recently started playing Hordes/Warmachine with a friend. New rules, new army, new world ; its exactly what I needed.

So I started playing trollblood late may, slowly learning the rules and tactics of this army. I have to say I’m having a lot of fun (even if I’m still far from ready to win a first match), and I am really looking forward to start painting the army. I already know pretty much all about my color scheme, and I just need to start paint them.

Taste like crap, but hey, the color are nice!

Color scheme is a funny thing. I was at the gas station, looking for some candy for my kids, when i came across a Runts metal box, and decided my Trollblood would be based on that box. Lots of orange, some blue, some purple, basically an army you'd almost want to eat with bright and vibrant colors all around.. I might even go as far as avoiding Brown shadow and/or base color (sacrilege!).

My list right now ;

Faction: Trollblood
Points: 35/35
Grim Angus (*6pts)
* Troll Impaler (5pts)
* Dire Troll Mauler (9pts)
Trollkin Fennblades (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Trollkin Fennblade Officer & Drummer (2pts)
Trollkin Long Riders (Leader and 2 Grunts) (7pts)
Trollkin Runeshapers (Leader and 2 Crew) (4pts)
Trollkin Runeshapers (Leader and 2 Crew) (4pts)
Stone Scribe Chronicler (2pts)

  1. Nice list. :)

    How are the Long Riders coming out without Horthol ? I found that I always include him with them, to maximise their potential.

    1. Quite frankly, i've only used them twice so far. But from w hat i've seen most people recommend to avoid him unless you go 5 strong, and at 35, i think its way too much pts to invest.

      It's a very work in progress list, since i'm still toying with units, and don't really know enough about the game to make good decision. 3 seems like a good choice for flanking units ; strong enough to survive, and deadly enough to have an impact. At 12-16 pts, it'd feel more of a frontal assault type of unit.

    2. It is a huge point investment for that size, especially for a flanking force. I still like to include him with a min unit, depending on the caster, to deal with high defence troops. The additional die on the impact attacks can make the difference when you don't have a Fell Caller nearby. As he can go his separate way from them and still give his bonus, he could probably replace one of your Runeshapers unit, if you could find a extra point somewhere.

      Have fun with the blue (orange?) guys. They are by far my favourite faction in both game systems, either fluff, model or rule wise. :)
