last year, i set myself 24 goals, aiming for a 60% success.
http://enkiel.blogspot.ca/2012/12/goal-for-2013.html
Lets see how i fared first
Warmachine 1/1
1 goal which was not to buy new model until everything is painted. I resisted, and despite not painting anything, at least i didn't buy anything. Success
40k 0/3
Paint a few model from my Dark Eldar. In the end, i didn't paint dark eldar, i instead started a new Grey Knights army. Fail X3
Fantasy 4/13
Nurgle 3/3
Finishing my army + presentation tray for ND Open. Success
Play at least 10 games. Success. I didnt play them before the tournament, which bite me in the ass, but at least i played with the army.
Ogre 1/4
Well, this gonna be painfull, as i didn't really touch them, except to play with them once in awhile....
Finish Stonehorn. Failed. Didn't touch him at all.
new BSB. Failed. Didn't even start thinking about it
Tattooes. Failed. No real reason.
10 Games. Success!
O&G 0/6
Even worst than my Ogres, those werent touched, not even for playing....
Terrain 2/7
adding terrain to 40k Failed x2
Basecoat or paint 40k building Failed x2
Build and Paint 2 Tabletop Failed
Build and Paint 2 tabletop forest + add another terrain to my fantasy table. Success. I call it success because i fixed my forest problem by purchasing 4 already painted GW Forest, and also added a used skullmantle big ass terrain to my roster.
Total is 7/24 for a very bad 29%... Lets sets some goal that are actually possible, even with a "i dont wanna see anything warhammer related for the next 6 months" phase...
I've been painting and playing Fantasy for the past 3 years, spending much time and money into a hobby that very few people really understand. This blog is following my steps into the world of Game Workshop's Fantasy and 40k.

Goal for 2013
With new year just around the corner, its time to write down my goal for the next year.
Warmachine
#1 My goal is pretty simple ; i cannot buy any more models before i start painting them again. I have a complete army, and only 2 models are painted.
Warhammer 40k
#2 Finish at least 10 of my Wyches
#3 Paint up all my Helion
#4 Add a unit of Painted Jetbike or Allies to the army.
Warhammer Fantasy
Nurgle
#5 Finish my 2500 pts army
#6 Build a presentation tray
#7 Play at least 10 games (not including ND V tournament) with them.
Ogre
#8 Finish my Stonehorn
#9 Build and Paint a new BSB
#10 Add tattoo to my older models.
#11 Play at least 10 games with them.
Orcs and Goblins
#12 Finish buying/building my Orcs Chariots
#13 Finish building/painting my Squig Manglers
#14 Finish buying/building my Doom Diver
#15 Finish building my Savage Orcs
#16 Paint at least 1 characters
#17 Play at least 5 games with them
Terrain
#18 Add 1 building to my 40k table
#19 Add 3 Craters to my 40k table
#20 Finish basing all my 40k building
#21 Base coat all my 40k building
#22 Build and Paint 2 of my Tabletop building
#23 Build and Paint 2 Tabletop forest
#24 Add another terrain to my fantasy table
Lots, and lots of goal for 2013. Some are pretty easy (building my doom diver), some will require alot more times (like finishing my Nurgle army). Out of the 24 goal i've set, i'm aiming for a 60% success rate.

100th Post!
For this milestone, i decided to go ahead, and get a group shot of every army i own, in their current state. Figured i could also talk about GW's new price hike, but i don't really feel like this post being a downer.
Ogre Kingdoms
Ogre were my first real army i started collecting, in 2008 or so. I have a bit of everything, and can easily field 5000+ points on the table. I won many small tournament with it (Especially since our new book was released), and i even went as far as to win Best General in a 40+ players event.
Dark Elves
Dark Elves were an army i started back in 7th ed, when i was tired of loosing with my Ogres, and wanted a few wins to raise moral. It worked. It also allowed me to learn alot more about game (since Ogres were pretty basic back then, without cavalry, little shooting, and weird magic phase).
there's a few model i'm particulary proud of ; My cold one were painted scale by scale, My Cauldron's Witch Elves were painted to a standard i could never achieve again, and my favourite piece of all ; my Sorceress
Dark Eldar
I decided that i wanted to start 40k a long time ago, but never really cared much to collect a complete army. I finally did lastr year, and i'm currently owning about 2000 pts of those elves in space. Not much is painted (or even assembled), but my goal is to get it slowly done, hoping to start playing for real with 6th ed (and when times permit... which shouldnt happen too often). Sadly, since everything i have painted to my current standard is currently displayed at my local store, there's no army shot available at this time.
Orcs and Goblins
I always though that an Orc army was interesting. Not very competitive, but loads of fun and random stuff that can make each game truely unique, even with the same list. This one is my first true army with loads of conversion (and a theme!), which makes its progress slower than anything i've ever done. I did almost complete 2 chariot conversion, but nothing is finished. About 5 Orcs are painted.
Nurgle Carnival
This one is not really a secret, but it's something i plan on starting maybe this summer. Basically, i'm aiming for a mono-god Daemons army based on the Nurgle Carnival. With each model an unique conversion, this is one of those project that might never ever reach 1500 points, especially if they get released with the type of new model we've seen with the last few books (come on, who really wants to convert something like an ironblaster when the current model is so gorgeous?). I have tons of idea in store, with unit filler, presentation tray, and even unique model ideas.

About 90% is painted.

About 50% is painted, some to good standard

Some color choice were perfect for that model

1500 pts friendly tournament
This past weekend was a friendly 1500 pts 3 games "tournament" held at our local store. The restriction was no lord nor special character.
I decided to try something new ; no mage, Gutmaw banner, Gorger and Scouting maneater. I even fielded a small unit of 3 Yhetees, just for kick (also because i was feeling a bit cheap about bringing 2 unit of mournfang in a 1500 pts tournament....)
So here's my list ;

Lists of the month (1500 pts Dark Elfs and Ogres)
So in about a week there's a 1500 pts fantasy tournament, with no restriction except no lord. I'm considering two list ; My Ogres or My Dark Elfs.

Some pictures of my Ogres from the tournament
Some pictures people took of my army. Very happy about how they look, i rarely see my army under good light like this.

ND IV is over
ND IV is over, and i have to say, i had a blast.
After a first day that was pretty good in my opinion, i arrived for the second day with a hope to break the top 10 as i was hoping. The game started pretty well with the organizer telling me my army was nominated for the top 5 best looking army of the tournament....

2479 pts completed of Ogre Kingdoms
Finally completed my whole army, minus a single sabertusk. Pictures after the break.
Northern Defender this weekend.
This weekend is the biggest warhammer fantasy tournament in Québec, with close to 50 inscription. It’s a very exciting event, especially since Games Workshop now recognize the tournament. It’s a 6 games weekend, with little to no composition restriction (teclis being one of those). Scenario will be picked from 12 creation for the events, most of them involving objective capture in some ways.

Playing the game to win
Ok, i have to admit it. As much as i love painting, i think i enjoy even more a good game that ends in my favor. So it comes to no surprise that when i play, i usually play to win. I do not think i'm cocky, or that i'm bending any rules (actually, i'm sure about the rule part, and hopeful about the cocky one).
I just came back a few hours ago from a local tournament that happens about twice a month. We were 12. I think i won, or tied for first place, or at least ended second. But that doesn't really matter. What matter is that people, especially those who used to expect an easy win from the old Ogres, seems to consider everything in our book broken.

Ogre's Presentation Tray #2
So i did a bit of work on the presentation tray. I tried my friend's foam cutter, and was pretty pleased with the result. So after about 2 hours of work, i managed to do something like this ;
I'm hoping to start this week filling up the gaps with plaster, and building some height on the base so my tray "dissapear" when placed on the board. I might end up with something half finished, but i at least gotta try.

2 Ironblaster Part 3
My second Ironblaster is finally finished, and picture were taken.
I still need to do a base for him, and do some fine details i forgot (like his face's horns) but there's no rush (well, ok, there's one.... but i'm not rushed).
First, a picture of the finished beast.

Eventful post, but no pictures
Yesterday been a pretty eventful night. First, i received what i ordered in january (finally) from GC-minis. With their free shipping gone, and their very long wait time (and lack of communication), its definately the last time i order from them. So i received ;
3xDark Eldar Venom
2x Hellion box
1x Talos
With this order, i think its safe to say i can play 1500 pts games with a relatively competitive list (for the current Edition, at least). I'll work on some list, and post what i'm planning to play later today.

Mournfangs vs Maneaters.
I often ask myself, should i really keep playing the mournfangs? I mean, they are nice and all, but are they really the best possible option? I think its often a question to ask yourself to keep on improving both your skill and your list. After all, our best answer might not be the absolute best, and if you look at all the forum on warhammer, there's about as many playstyle as there are players.

2 Ironblaster Part 2
Ironblaster got some love too. I managed to get alot of work done on them, and i have to say that i really enjoyed painting that model. I'm almost considering buying a third just to build its Scraplauncher version.
First, the Ironblaster ;
Metal is done there too. With the very small bits, i went with a very simple paint technique of solid color + verdigris. The straps are very bright to break from the brownish of the model, and because i actually like to paint them that way. I could say that one of them is about 90% completed, while the other is about 75% complete. I'm hoping to have them both finished by the end of the week (considering i'm leaving wednesday, and coming back only friday night).
Second, the Ironblaster riders ;
Those are far from finished. Their paint is not striped yet, their skin is not finished, basically they are still many, many hours from being done.

Firebelly Update
For some reason, i love that model, but I'm not sure why, i just can't really get enough motivation to paint him up. Maybe its because it was my first finecast model with flaws and it turned me off, but i'm still trying to have him finished.

Mournfang update #4
Been awhile since i've updated with new pictures of my remaining models to paint for the big tournament. It's not really that i didnt paint much (i actually paint alot more than ever before, easily 3-4 hours a night, which is a feat with 3 young daughters), but because there wasn't much to show. I work small bits on each model every night, so nothing really wow-ing to show.
But i think i reached a point where there's enough advancement to show off my work.

Top 10 Best and Worst of Ogre Kingdoms army book
Following a thread on the stronghold about the top 5 worst things about our recent book, i decided to go a little deeper, and look at the top 10 best and worst of our book. First, lets look at the best of our book, what really make it a contender in tournament.
Best ;
#10 Leadbelchers
I personally didnt use them much before, or now, but i can easily see why everyone else does. They will not misfire again, and can still dish out a tons of shot every turn.
#9 Lore
When the book was announced, i was scared of our lore turning into "just-like-everyone-else". It did, but i think for the best. Sure out spell do not stack anymore, nor are we loremaster, but every spell is pretty easy to cast, and we keep our lore very buff oriented.
#8 New magical items
They are not really new, but their ability (and price) changed for the most part. Rock Eye at 5 pts is a steal. Grut's Sickle, is risky but can easily change a game. Hellheart is very random, but can decimate just about any caster-oriented-army. Greedy Fist is what makes a Slaughtermaster able to dish out some damage too. Even Dragonhide Banner, is finally worth it. A few item are obviously very bad, but for the most part, there's some keeper in there.
#7 Trappers
Quite frankly, i wasnt a big fan of loosing our only scout when i first read the book, but after playing with them a bit, i have to say that Trappers are really nice against gigantic hordes that seems to pop every now and then. Even against smaller horde they are very often worth their pts. Or just as roadblock, they are very good.
#6 Maneaters
It's like a unit that you can tailor to what you want to play. It's quite frankly pretty impressive. You want stubborn scout? check. Poison Sniper? check. They are still very pricey, but no matter your needs, they can fulfil it.
#5 Thundertusk/Stonehorn
I placed them both in the same entry because they come from the same kit, but they are so different. The Thundertusk is the utility player you always want nearby. It's even a mobile warmachine. The Stonehorn is the hard hitter, to turn the tide of any combat in Ogres favor. Two very nice model for two very good entry in our army book.
#4 Firebelly
A very nice model, and he adds something that few army can afford ; a flaming attack without a banner. In a unit of Ironguts, he can basically open the regen-can and let the hard hitter finish the works.
#3 Ironblaster
With cannon being what they are in 8th edition and the , its definately nice to have one of our own. It's even a very nice chariot that can do a pretty nice job at destroying ennemy.
#2 Sabertusk
It's probably the best redirector ever, even better than great eagle, thanks to their low price and the ability to take them in 1s. the drawback is their Ld 4 that guarantee you they'll break from combat (especially since they can't use General's inspiring presence).
#1 Mournfang
My favourite unit/models in the new book. They can devastate S3 units like there's no tomorrow, they have enough impact hit to make and impact (teheee), and they are able to be taken in very small or very big units. You obviously have to be careful with them, since they are still just WS3/T4/W3, but i think they are as balanced as it can get for hard hitter.
Runner up ; Price Drop Overall
First thing everyone noticed when the book was released, was how pretty much everything went down in price. It's always helpful to be able to field more body, but in the end, its not that many bodies you're fielding..
Worst ;
#10 Cathayan Longsword Long Gone
I missed having an extra weapon skill without taking a magical weapon. But with one less Lord allowed, more often than not, my Lord end up with Fencers blade, and my heroes with, well, nothing.
#9 Hunter
I'd really like to field him, i'd really do. Especially since he can take a mount. But he's expensive, kind of lack any real long range ability (that you couldnt get otherwise), and is just... well. For his price, you basically have to give up on a second caster or a BSB, and i don't think he can really replace any.
#8 Gorger
The price hikes alone make them worthless now. For 90 pts, you can get 2 Yhetees (who arent a great choice, but could fill a role easily too), or a Mournfang, with quite a few spare points. Ambusher is nice, but not worth the extra price.
#7 Maw taxe
I personally never considered to get a slaughtermaster with a lore different than the Maw, but i guess it has alot to do with the fact you actually need at least a caster with it to get any other lore. Beast and Heavens would be a nice choice for a lvl4, but i don't like to think about getting a butcher lvl1 to get it, forcing me to spend too much points in heroes, or dropping my beloved Firebelly.
#6 Thundermace/Siegebreaker
Why would someone buy a 85 pts weapon that does little more than a standard great weapon? For their price, they'd need to get something special, like Heroic Killing Blow, or something to make it worth the risk of a defenseless 300 points Tyrant
#5 Dissapearance of some items
Brahmir Statue, Skullmantle, Greatskull or Wyrdstone Necklace. Plenty of item that often made it in my list dissapeared. It's really sad because they were adding someting to our army to really help against top tier army.
#4 Bragg
He deserve an entry of his own because of his entry. The model is very nice, easily as nice as Golgfag or the firebelly. Even his stats are decent. What hurt is that you'd like to think he can kill big beast like a hydra and such, right? wrong. He has to be in a challenge to have heroic killing blow, basically making him nothing more than an overly expensive bruiser without defense. I'm sure 75% of Bragg's sale are going into converting him to be something else.
#3 Big names
Lets face it, mawseeker was way underpriced. Even the stupidity in gave couldnt overcome the fact our character were now in near god-mode. The new one could even work, if it wasn't for the fact they are now in magical item allowance. I'd gladly pay an extra 40 points for my Tyrant to be T6. It's expensive, but he'd be very, VERY hard to take down. But if i do that right now, he has to have only 60 pts in magical item... non-sense. Not sure anyone is actually using them anymore.
#2 Price hike on Runemaw
It was underpriced, it was a bumpy road rule wise, but it was a great anti-magic to get. It would even be worth considering if it wasnt for the fact it is now BSB only. It was the only item that pretty much allowed us to run caster-free and still get most of our army out of magical arm. Not anymore.
#1 Price hike on Slaughtermaster
A 85 points increase is all we needed to make sure we are never able to field a Tyrant + Slaughtermaster anymore at 2500 points. We joined the very select club of "lord killer or caster, pick one". I loved my ninja maneater as tyrant, and i really miss having one of each. I know some army like Warrior of Chaos have the same dilema, but i think we are still leagues apart.
Runner up ; Greasus Goldtooth and Skrag the Slaughterer
They aren't really worst than they were in the old book, but they aren't really better either. They are not really worth considering except if you're looking for a funny list. I think the Ogre book is probably the one who got the worst special character of the hard cover army book.
Best ;
#10 Leadbelchers
I personally didnt use them much before, or now, but i can easily see why everyone else does. They will not misfire again, and can still dish out a tons of shot every turn.

1st test pre-tournament with new list.
I tried my new and updated list for a tournament in March involving alot of objective against the Newly released Vampire count.
Tournament is a 2500 pts, 2 days, 6 games mayhem. The special thing about it is that there's little to no comp (only a few special character are not allowed, like Teclis), and to hold an objective you have to be 10 RnF, 3 MI, 3 MC, or a monster.
